The Saotome Institute is a Getter Ray research institution founded by Dr. Saotome after finding a massive concentration of Getter Rays called the "Fragment of Emperor". With the threat of the Devolved beings, the institute's research on Getter Rays was used to develop the Getter Robo and fight the menace.

The Saotome Institute's main purpose is to study Getter Rays and all of their effects, whether the hazards on enemies or even the effects on certain individuals. As their main usage of Getter Rays is the Getter Robo, the Institute features training simulators for pilots to practice piloting the Getter Machines. Their many labs feature analysis methods for studying the matter and samples of the Devolved. It also features living quarters for the pilots and scientists.
